Facebook Graph Search Takes Aim at Google

Last week Facebook announced a new search tool dubbed, “Graph Search” that will allow Facebook users around the globe to quickly and easily unearth information found on Facebook. The new search feature has already begun rolling out to select users and it may take up to a year to each all users on Facebook.

Facebook’s newest tool takes aim at competitors such as Google, Yelp and LinkedIn and opens up an entirely new way to search online, all without having to leave Facebook.

For example, users can search for a single woman in New York to date who is mutually friends with someone you know, search for open jobs at friend’s companies or people who live in your area that have ‘Liked’ the latest blockbuster movie. The possibilities are endless.

People haven’t typically thought of Facebook as a place to discover places you can go to eat or things you can do, but that soon may change. Previously, Facebook has always been focused on mapping out and communicating with the people that are in your life, but now they are building a product that focuses on people that maybe you should know through common interests.

For businesses, to ensure you are prepared for Facebook Graph Search, make sure you are as visible as possible. If you don’t have a Facebook Page, create one. If you aren’t very active on your Page, start posting engaging content on a daily basis. Get started on it now so by the time Facebook Graph Search is rolled out to people in your city, the new search tool can expose your business to a lot more people and potential new customers.
