What will replace Google’s left sidebar if UI goes horizontal?

Google continues to reinvent its look online, testing out new user interface (UI) designs incrementally. While some of its experiments wind up being just temporary adjustments, other changes have the potential to revolutionize how people interact with the search engine online. In addition, with many companies developing online marketing campaigns based off of Google's algorithms, keeping abreast of these alterations is a part of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.

Recently, Google began testing a new UI that some preliminary experts say resembles a tablet-based design. The search engine has incorporated a vertical search options look, which features categories like images, maps, videos and news across the top of the search engine results page, rather than on the left sidebar. This has left a significant amount of empty space where the features once were, and some believe further changes are just around the corner.

According to SearchEngineLand, filling the open space with advertisements can give marketers a bigger opportunity to improve lead generation practices. However, SearchEngineWatch suggests that Google may opt to place the gray Google+ sidebar in the now-empty space to help integrate their social network platform more effectively going forward. Either way, Google has yet another change in store for its users in the very near future.
