Google’s Panda update affects fewer sites, while Penguin may jolt the web in the future
It’s important to keep in the loop of upcoming Google algorithm changes if you want your online marketing campaigns to remain unaffected. In the same vein, you might be interested to know that, according to Google’s Matt Cutts, any future Panda algorithm update will be so minor that you won’t even notice – in fact, a refresh is one fewer obstacle to worry about. Of course, don’t revert back to poor quality content because you might feel the wrath of Panda all over again.
However, speaking at the SES San Francisco conference, Cutts emphasized that adjustments to the Penguin update should still be expected. Cutts explains that since Penguin is a newer algorithm, it will face bigger adjustments down the line, and webmasters may feel the jolts hit their websites more often in the future. Eventually, Penguin will fall into a groove like Panda, and marketers will be less affected than they were before.
While the next Penguin refresh may not be for a few more weeks, your preparation for the update should be an ongoing process. This means while you wait for Google to implement its next effort to improve search quality, you should go over what is defined as White Hat search engine optimization (SEO). These guidelines will assist you in improving the ranking of your website online.
