Google completes its rebranding of Google Places, unveils iOS application
In May 2012, Google announced the rebranding of Google Places. While the process has been underway for nearly a month, the company just recently released its Google+ Local application for the iOS operating system. This mobile program allows users to find businesses close to them, which can drive traffic to brick and mortar outlets.
The new application provides a variety of lead generation benefits, as it comes with a few new display changes. Similar to the web version of Google+ Local, the new iOS app features data from Zagat, which has long been considered a premiere review service that offers superior business information. The update will include the rating score, reviews and a brief summary of a business. This app certainly has the ability to give Yelp a run for its money.
When working to improve mobile marketing techniques, businesses need to remain informed about the latest changes in social media and other emerging markets. It seems with more people purchasing smartphones and implementing them into their daily lives, the greatest opportunity for higher profit margins lies in reaching out to people while they’re on the move. In some cases, creating new applications that encourage regular usage may be a brand’s best tool upon which they can leverage their online marketing prowess.
