The importance of corporate blogging

In the plethora of social media marketing options, it is easy to lose track of blogging. It is a great way to offer brand personality and showcase industry expertise, though it is not as immediately interactive as Twitter and other tools. However, experienced marketers rated blogging as the second most important platform for their online marketing efforts, according to Social Media Examiner's 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report.

Here are some tips for blogging effectively:

  • Give readers something of value. It's vital for readers to feel as though they are receiving something they want from the interaction, not just reading a sales pitch. Writing about common challenges readers might face and offering solutions is an excellent way to do this.
  • The goal of blogging is to become a trusted source that readers can turn to on the Internet. If consumers feel a blogger is notable and shares their interests, they will begin to interact more with the brand and perhaps even purchase the products or services available.
  • Bloggers should build relationships with their readers, through responding to comments and genuinely soliciting opinions from them. Building connections can pay off in many ways. If readers feel they are close to a blogger, they will be much more likely to consider a sales pitch, for example.
