Google recently announced several updates to its social media platform, Google Plus. While the network may not be as heavily used as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, brands can benefit from a search engine optimization boost by maintain an up-to-date Google Plus account.
According to Google's Official Blog, the company is placing an emphasis on visual engagement, allowing iOS device users to back up their photos through Google Plus. Additionally, Google said its platform is now able to recognize more than one thousand different objects, allowing users to better navigate their photo libraries. Google Plus users can also edit their photos through the social network.
The focus Google Plus is placing on images reflects a growing trend among Web users seeking a more visually interactive experience. Multimedia is playing a greater role in Internet marketing, and brands that diversify their content with photos, videos, graphics and other visual elements can benefit from stronger follower engagement.
According to Forbes, Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product for Google Plus, stated at a press conference that more updates to the social network are on the way. Horowitz also said membership numbers are up to 540 million people, compared to 390 million in May. With more people signing up for an account, brands shouldn't delay capitalizing on the opportunity to network with current and potential clients.
