Google reviews its latest changes to guide webmasters down the right path
Over the course of April 2012, Google unveiled a series of algorithm updates that altered the face of SEO. While many webmasters saw their pages dip in rankings, the changes helped organize the internet into a cleaner space. On Friday, May 4, 2012, Google took the time to outline a wide array of changes made to its service over April, most notably the updates made to SEO and ranking results.
Most of these highlights are already associated to the larger Panda and Penguin updates. However, the official post clears up any speculation about which tactics weigh more on the minds of Google experts.
Improvements to the ways search terms are scored in ranking are some of the most essential signals used in search, Google said. This alteration puts a focus on how users implement keywords onto their web pages, analyzing where the anchor text is in conjunction with the content. In addition, keyword stuffing can lead to an excessively spammy web page, so users need to craft content that complements their content marketing strategies, instead of trying to cheat the system.
Google also upgraded its search system to help bring to light more authoritative content and limit the amount of pages that show up from the same domain on a single search. All-in-all, these upgrades are meant to improve online marketing and content curation on the web today.
