Mobile users concerned over privacy settings in apps
It's expected that mobile web searching will surpass desktop engagement in the next year. According to Business2Community, approximately 80 percent of consumers abandon a website if it's not mobile friendly. This creates immediate demand for responsive web designers to craft adaptable web pages and online marketing professionals to customize site copy to appeal to SEO standards. However, not all is bright and easy in the world of mobile marketing.
The Pew Internet Project recently released new survey data that showed 57 percent of app users have uninstalled an application over privacy concerns, or declined to install the program in the first place. The research breaks down as follows – 54 percent of app users decided not to install a program when they discovered how much personal information would be recorded, while 30 percent of users uninstalled an app that was already on their phones because of the amount of data being collected. Pew also found that 50 percent of smartphone owners clear search and browsing histories, and 30 percent of users disable location tracking.
Professionals looking to integrate mobile marketing strategies into their promotional mix need to make sure their apps aren't taking too much private data. Such practices may affect future integration of mobile applications across a wider scale.
