A study conducted by TEKsystems said close to one in four executives believe the Internet of Things is proving successful in products, services and processes (1). Nearly 200 IT firms were surveyed for the study in Nov. 2015. Of those surveyed, 42 percent believe in the IoT's potential and are in the early stages of implementation. The survey also found 50 percent of companies believed the IoT could bring in new streams of revenue for their companies. This IoT principle can have a significant impact upon B2B marketing, email marketing, integrated marketing and general marketing services for B2B companies.
As a relatively new concept, the Internet of Things is defined as "the concept of connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet," according to Forbes (2). Connecting all devices to the Internet has proven successful for home security solutions, interactive online advertising campaigns throughout grocery stores and smart refrigerators that let families know when they are running low on ingredients. It will prove a successful medium for B2B marketers as office furniture and appliances become more technologically advanced.
