Mobile Marketing: Tablets Quickly Dominating
According to data just released by eMarketer, nearly half the U.S. population will use a tablet device at least monthly in 2014. With many consumers spending more time on their tablets than they do on their PCs, or perhaps even ditching their PCs altogether, tablets are becoming increasingly important when it comes to advertising and online shopping.
Bloomberg Businessweek recently noted that people quickly fell in love with tablets, promoting the tablet computer to become “one of the most successful consumer electronic products ever.” However, the initial rush to buy tablets seems to have subsided a bit, as Businessweek said that overall sales of tablets seemed to have slowed recently. However, demand for inexpensive tablet models continues to be strong.
One of the most popular uses for tablets is to watch videos. The eMarketer data predicted that time spent watching video on tablets will increase almost 54% this year, meaning tablet video viewing is increasing at an even faster pace than that of smartphone video viewing. For marketers, this means there’s good justification for investing resources into creating video content that is tablet/mobile friendly.
And of course content in general should be convenient for tablet users, which is yet another reasons businesses should consider embracing responsive design, if they haven’t gone in that direction already.
