Mobile Email Overtakes Desktop as iPhone Named Top Email Client
If you have been reading our blog for the past year or so, you would know that mobile technology is booming and mobile search and email is slowly taking over desktop. As more people around the world become more connected to their smartphone and tablet devices, it’s no surprise that more people are accessing their email accounts via these handy devices.
February of this year was the turning point and shortly after is when mobile platforms dominated and overtook desktop and webmail as the top environment in April. Even more impressive is that email “opens” on mobile devices have increased 80% in the past six months and continues to climb.
The most popular email client? iPhone edged out Outlook at 20% of the market share, beating out Outlook by 2% and Yahoo!Mail by 7%. iPhone’s market share has nearly doubled in the past year to put it in the top spot.
The stats are from Litmus, an email testing and analytics company that examined one billion “opens” of emails sent by its customers in June 2012, then compiled the findings into the below infographic. Ask yourself this question, “Has your audience gone mobile?” Most likely, the answer is, “yes.”
