Traditionally, search engine optimization (SEO) is broken into two parts: on page and off page. Truly exceptional SEO begins with content marketing and optimizing what is found on the page.
On page SEO includes optimizing the structure of a page, the content around carefully researched and selected keywords and interlinking. Off page SEO includes link building campaigns, content syndication and social networking that points back to the optimized pages. The key to a successful SEO campaign is to start with the on page SEO and then use those pages to build an audience and promote the content across the internet within your niche.
There is a ceiling to how much SEO success can be had with utilizing just on page optimization. There is a sweet spot in between not having enough optimized content on a page and stuffing that content with keywords – which can draw penalties from Google for having thin content or from keyword stuffing. Neither is good and will hurt your search engine rankings, as we have seen from Google’s Panda and Penguin algorithm changes.
This is where the off page SEO techniques come to the rescue and a major emphasis needs to be put on creating shareable content with the targeted keywords. It is the deep, well written content found within your website or blog that makes it shareable. Well written content can evoke emotion and educate the reader and entice them to share your piece with their own social audience. This is how blog communities are formed, links are grown and improved website rankings are achieved.
In order to achieve greater results with SEO, it all starts and ends with great content. Content marketing is proven to increase search engine rankings and increase visibility. There is no short cut around it, if you want the best SEO results, you need the best content. From there, the link building and the sharing will come, because people will love reading what you have to say as you become positioned as a thought leader in your industry.
