Pinterest: Growing in Pins and Boards
Pinterest isn’t just another social network; it’s the fastest growing network in history, surpassing Facebook and MySpace in its heyday. A myriad of new social networks hit the internet each year but only a few stick around long enough to gain enough users to make it a worthwhile community. Then, there’s the ones that strive to change everything and grow quicker than any social network, Facebook included. Pinterest began in March 2010 and has recently exploded with massive growth numbers and international media coverage.
Pinterest has attracted primarily upper-middle class women which “pin” images onto their digital “pin boards” which typically consist of wedding ideas, the newest fashions and gourmet recipes. Just recently, businesses have started to take notice and use Pinterest as a springboard to refer traffic back to their website, luring the Pinterest member with pictures and graphics that are of interest to them.
Take a look at this very Pinteresting infographic provided by The Huffington Post that shows just who the users of Pinterest are and how they can be targeted to drive traffic back to your website.
