Smartphone Users Quickly Abandon Bad Mobile Shopping Experiences
In a recent study conducted by Limelight Networks, the majority of the 771 surveyed smartphone users agreed that they expect mobile websites to deliver a quick and easy mobile shopping experience. Of the surveyed population, 80% stated they would quickly abandon the mobile shopping website if they had a bad experience or ran into the slightest issue, showing how important mobile website optimization truly is, especially for ecommerce sites.
In a visitor was faced with a sub-par experience on a mobile shopping site:
- 18% would abandon the site and seek another site optimized for mobile use
- 20% would complete their visit, but would not return for additional purchases
- 62% would abandon the visit but return to the site to complete the purchase via desktop at a later time
Additionally, it was found that 67% of those surveyed have used their smartphone to shop online with 83% using their mobile device to research and purchase a product and 17% simply using their device to only research products.
