Adobe Abandons Mobile Flash, Backs HTML5

Mobile web designers now must fully supports HTML5 as Adobe has confirmed that it is abandoning development of its Flash player plug-in for mobile web design and browsers. Referencing Apple’s rejection of Flash support on its iOS devices and Steve Job’s prediction that Adobe will soon cease flash development Adobe VP Danny Winokur stated,“HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.”

This move signals a changing of hands to full support for HTML5 which is native support for video and combined with Javascript and CSS, developers can completely replace Flash while using fewer resources, save battery life and allows for better optimization on mobile devices. It’s a win-win.

The once dominant desktop platform now hangs its hat as Adobe announces that they are cutting 750 jobs as they completely abandon the project, a move Adobe is calling “corporate restructuring.”
