Search Engine Optimization: Plus One (+1) – Google’s Latest Attempt at Social Networking

Google is making another attempt to leverage social sentiment with Google Plus One (+1), a new product. Google Plus One allows users to endorse items in search engine results pages as well as see the items that members of their Google Profile have endorsed. We predict these votes which are similar to Facebook “Likes” will eventually impact search results and therefore search engine optimization.

According to Google, “The +1 button is shorthand for ‘this is pretty cool’ or ‘you should check this out.’ Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1’s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search.”

Although Google has not stated how Google Plus One will effect search engine optimization and search engine rankings it is safe to assume based on Google’s description of Plus One that it will have a significant impact on SEO and search results.
