Social media site, LinkedIn, recently announced the launch of their new social news site, joining sites like Zite for the iPad or Flipboard among those representing social news 2.0.
This is a breakout product for LinkedIn and could become highly successful and increase levels of engagement and revenue. This is mainly due to the fact that many other personalized or social news platforms do not have the brand recognition of LinkedIn.
LinkedIn users can now follow blogs, publications and industry news and their connections and contacts will help determine what items are relevant and what items get surfaced.
Just as the creation of LinkedIn Groups as well as Twitter integration made LinkedIn more engaging and popular, social networking experts predict that this product may increase LinkedIn’s appeal and popularity and may even vault it into competition with sites like Facebook and Twitter.
