Internet Marketing News: Google Introduces Real-Time Search Page
Google recently introduced a standalone Web site for real-time searches that will pull blog posts, news stories as well as updates from social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz.
Google integrated updates from social networks into its core search product last year, but Realtime Search will be a separate search site for individuals who only want social networking from sites like FriendFeed, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and Buzz.
The service is now live and can be accessed by clicking the “Updates” button on the toolbar to the left of Google.com search pages or by visiting http://www.google.com/realtime.
A quick glance at Google’s Realtime Search displayed search results primarily from Twitter, with only one update from a different social networking site thrown in. This may make you ask, “What makes this different from a Twitter search?” The answer, Google has added a number of customization features including the ability to filter results by location. This is great for marketers and others who are interested what people are saying in a specific geographical area.
“So if you’re traveling to Los Angeles this summer, you can check out tweets from Angelenos to get ideas for activities happening right where you are,” stated Dylan Casey, a Google product manager.
Google has also added a “conversation view,” which allows you to view a complete Twitter conversation.
“Often a single tweet sparks a larger conversation of re-tweets and other replies, but to put it together you have to click through a bunch of links and figure it out yourself,” Casey wrote. “With the new ‘full conversation’ feature, you can browse the entire conversation in a single glance. We organize the tweets from oldest to newest and indent so you quickly see how the conversation developed.”
Realtime Search is available in 40 languages, though conversation views and geographic options are only available in English, Spanish, Japanese and Russian for now.
